About Us - The Teaching Staff

Elaine Dowsett - Pilates Instructor

Pilates had always been an important part of Elaine’s ballet training and it was well known to her when she began her instructor training with Polestar Pilates in 2006. Qualifying in 2007 she went on to study the Classical Pilates method in London at the Pilates Room. During this time she took part in the teacher training programme at the studio. Elaine is also qualified as a pre-natal and post-partum specialist with the Centre for Women’s Fitness in Michigan USA.

It is in Classical Pilates that Elaine has found huge inspiration. A more thorough study of the history and philosophy of Pilates, and tracing the development of the system, have given her a much deeper understanding of this method. Her teaching focus grasps the essence of Pilates and incorporates current knowledge from evolved Pilates and other movement therapies.

Janna Hawkins –Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor

Janna trained both as a Pilates apprentice and in the Polestar International Rehabilitation training programme. She has been using Pilates as her primary tool in rehabilitation since 2003.

Her areas of special interest include dance physiotherapy, pre/postnatal exercise and the correction of postural alignment and muscle imbalance.

Philip Ward - Pilates Instructor

Philip sees Joseph Pilates’ idea of mindful, whole body movement as essential to everyone’s vitality and well-being. Consequently, he is training to achieve his Polestar Pilates instructor qualification to further his skill base and knowledge.
