Elaine Dowsett - Pilates Instructor

Elaine was born in Aylesbury in England. She fell in love with Ballet as a young child and did her formative training as an associate of the Royal Ballet School in London. She emigrated with her family to New Zealand at age 11. Later she returned to London when she won a place at Central School of Ballet to do her senior training. In 2001 she graduated and began her professional career dancing for several ballet companies in Europe. She is also a qualified fitness instructor with the Australian Institute of Fitness and a certified Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) teacher.

Pilates had always been an important part of Elaine’s ballet training and it was well known to her when she began her instructor training with Polestar Pilates in 2006. Qualifying in 2007 she went on to study the Classical Pilates method in London at the Pilates Room. During this time she took part in the teacher training programme at the studio. Elaine is also qualified as a pre-natal and post-partum specialist with the Centre for Women’s Fitness in Michigan USA.

It is in Classical Pilates that Elaine has found huge inspiration. A more thorough study of the history and philosophy of Pilates, and tracing the development of the system, have given her a much deeper understanding of this method. Her teaching focus grasps the essence of Pilates and incorporates current knowledge from evolved Pilates and other movement therapies.

As part of her ongoing professional development, Elaine will be enrolling on the master course in the Classical Pilates Method, in Colorado USA.
